AI Debate Council — Privacy Policy
Effective date: 1 October 2026 · Applies to version 1.2.1 and later
Summary
AI Debate Council is a Chrome extension that sends your question to AI chat services you choose (ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek and, if you enable it, Claude) in your own signed-in browser tabs, lets their answers critique each other, and shows a synthesized conclusion. No server of the developer ever receives your questions, answers or documents. If you turn on the optional anonymous usage statistics, or send an error report, a small set of anonymous codes is sent as described below.
Data the extension handles
- Your questions and follow-up questions, typed in the extension's side panel.
- Website content from the AI chat sites: the answers the AI services write in your tabs, and page state such as "still generating", "sign-in required" or "usage limit reached".
- Settings: default AIs, rounds, prompt templates, language, and the time you accepted the in-app guide.
- History and ratings of finished sessions, if you keep them.
- API keys you enter for the optional own-API-key mode, and the model names you choose.
- License information if you activate Pro: the license key, an activation ID, the product and variant name, and the license status returned by the seller. The purchaser's name and email are not stored by the extension.
The extension does not read your browsing history, other websites, passwords, cookies or payment information. It runs only on chatgpt.com, gemini.google.com, chat.deepseek.com and claude.ai.
Where data is stored
Everything is stored locally on your computer, in the extension's storage and in IndexedDB. API keys and license information are kept in the extension's own IndexedDB, which web pages cannot read. Your questions and answers are never sent to the developer. The extension contains no advertising, no remote code, and no analytics unless you turn on the optional anonymous usage statistics below.
Anonymous usage statistics (optional, off by default)
You can choose to send anonymous usage statistics to help improve the extension. It is off unless you tick the box on the guide page or turn it on in Settings, and you can turn it off at any time.
- What is sent: which mode and template you chose; which AIs took part and how many rounds; the length range of your question and document (for example "under 200 characters", never the text); days since install; whether a session finished, or where and why it paused (an error code such as "tab not responding"); durations; which buttons you used (for example Continue, Skip, See Pro); follow-up counts; the names of settings you changed (not their values); the extension version, your plan (Free or Pro), interface language, operating system and Chrome version. On the developer's own test devices, events also carry an "internal" marker so they can be left out of the statistics; it is stored in the extension only when the Library page is opened with #internal, which normal use never does.
- What is never sent: your questions, the AIs' answers, pasted documents, follow-up text, page addresses, your email, license key or API keys. The extension only accepts short codes from a fixed list of events and fields, so free text cannot be sent.
- Identifier: a random code created on your device when you turn statistics on. It is not linked to your accounts, email or license. Turning statistics off deletes it; turning them on again creates a new one.
- Where it goes: PostHog (EU servers), used as our analytics processor. We ask PostHog not to create person profiles and not to look up a location from your IP address. Data is used only to improve the extension, never sold and never used for advertising.
- Transparency: Settings shows the most recent events your device sent.
Error reports and uninstall survey
When a session pauses because of an error, you can press "Send error report". This sends, once, the error code, the AI's name, the step, whether the AI ran in a tab or through an API key, the selector version, counts of page elements that matched each selector and the page state (numbers only, no page content), the session mode, and basic context (extension version, plan, interface language, operating system and Chrome major version), even if statistics are off. If statistics are on, it carries your statistics code; otherwise a one-time random code. It contains no questions or answers. When you remove the extension, Chrome opens a one-question survey page on our website; the page address contains the extension version, your plan and the number of days you used the extension, plus the statistics code only if statistics were on (and, on the developer's own test devices, a test marker t=1). If you answer the survey, your choice, any comment you type, and those values are sent to our statistics service (PostHog, EU); if you just close the page, no survey answer is sent (the page itself still sends the anonymous website statistics described below).
Our website
Our website uses no cookies and stores nothing in your browser (the one exception is a switch the developer turns on in his own browser, by opening the site with ?internal=1, to keep his test visits out of the statistics; normal browsing never sets it). To learn which pages and buttons help people, it sends anonymous page statistics to PostHog (EU) and Cloudflare Web Analytics: the page you open, the site that sent you there (domain only), campaign tags (utm_*) in the link, which install or buy button you click, which FAQ questions you open, how far you scroll, how long the page is visible, page load speed, and your browser's user-agent string, window width and device type. PostHog turns your IP address and browser type into a daily-changing anonymous code and does not keep the IP address, so visits cannot be linked across days. No PostHog statistics are sent if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views and load speed without cookies or personal data.
Own API keys (optional)
If you turn on the own-API-key mode for an AI, the extension sends your question, and in Debate mode and for the synthesis the other AIs' answers (with names replaced by labels), directly to that vendor's official API (api.openai.com, api.anthropic.com, generativelanguage.googleapis.com or api.deepseek.com) using your key. Each key is sent only to its own vendor. The vendor processes the content and bills the usage under its API terms and privacy policy. Permission to contact each API address is requested only when you save a key.
Pro license
If you buy Pro, payment is handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record under its own privacy policy. When you activate a license, the extension sends the license key and a device label ("AI Debate Council" and the date) to Lemon Squeezy's License API (api.lemonsqueezy.com) and then re-checks the license about once a day. These requests contain no questions, answers or other data. Removing the license from a device tells Lemon Squeezy to release that activation.
If you choose to tip the developer, the payment is handled by Ko-fi (with PayPal or Stripe) or by your bank, under their own privacy policies. The extension only opens the tip page; it sends them nothing about you or how you use it.
Selector updates
So that it keeps working when an AI site changes its layout, the extension downloads a digitally signed file of page selectors (CSS selectors and text patterns, no code) from a fixed public address operated by the developer, every 6 hours and after a page-element error. The request is a plain download without cookies and contains none of your data; like any web request, the hosting service can see your IP address. A file whose signature does not match the key built into the extension is ignored. You can turn selector updates off in Settings.
Who receives data
When you run a session, the extension sends content to the AI services you selected, through their websites and your own accounts:
- your question is sent to each selected AI;
- in Debate mode and for the synthesis, answers from one AI are sent to the other selected AIs, with the service names replaced by labels (Expert A, B, C…);
- follow-up questions are sent to the synthesizing AI, or to all selected AIs if you choose "Ask the whole council";
- for AIs in own-API-key mode, the same content goes to that vendor's API instead of its website.
Each AI service processes this content under its own terms and privacy policy. Note that DeepSeek states that it stores data on servers in China. Do not include confidential work data, customer data or sensitive personal information in your questions.
What the developer does not do
- We do not collect your questions, answers or documents, and we do not sell or transfer your data to anyone.
- We do not use your data for any purpose other than the extension's single purpose described above.
- We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness or lending.
Your choices
- Choose which AI services take part in each session, and whether each runs in a web tab or through your API key.
- Delete a saved API key, or remove the Pro license from this device, on the Pro & API page.
- Delete single sessions or all history in the extension's History page ("Delete all history").
- Turn anonymous usage statistics on or off in Settings, and see what your device recently sent.
- Withdraw your consent on the extension's guide page; the extension then stops starting new sessions.
- Remove the extension to delete all of its local data.
Third-party terms
Automating a chat website may breach some services' terms of use. Anthropic's consumer terms prohibit bot or script access to claude.ai, so Claude in a web tab is disabled by default; using Claude through your own API key is the route Anthropic allows. You are responsible for your use of each service with your account. AI Debate Council is not affiliated with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or DeepSeek.
Changes and contact
If the way the extension handles data changes, this page and the in-app guide will be updated and the change will be announced in the extension before it takes effect. Questions: support@debatecouncil.com.
